Aquatic resources

The protection of aquatic resources and water quality are crucial issues in Eeyou Istchee James Bay, where the Cree depend on the quality of water for the pursuit of their traditional activities. Historically, the JBACE regularly reviews these issues.

Fisheries Act

The federal government adopted a new version of the Fisheries Act in 2012. In the summer of 2016, the Government of Canada began reviewing a number of laws, including the Fisheries Act. The amended Fisheries Act came into force in August 2019. Since then, the JBACE has been involved in various engagement activities for the implementation of the provisions of the law.
